Help with starfish.....

Unless you collected it yourself, you have no way of knowing what diseases it may be carrying.

By all means, do the best you can by the animal - but to release it into your local waters could have a tremendous negative impact on unguessable numbers of the creatures there.

I am not sure of any meds safe for starfish.

Cipro may be an option. I know @Amoo uses Cipro on new nems alot.
I am not for sure. It doesn't look good though.

@Humblefish @Big G @4FordFamily

I've got nothing for starfish sorry. Cipro isn't the type of medicine I was say "try just for the heck of it". It's honestly not something I would try unless you were doing specific testing with it. Throwing it in as a prayer is not recommended IMO.

I seem to remember Bob Fenner saying to use NFG (Furan2) type product as a bath. Haven't done it myself for starfish.

Its a form of melting and hate to say but rarely heals itself and you asked..... Not much out there to treat a star as they are delicate to begin with and would not respond well to any form of chemical treatment

Not a good sign but your chances of keeping a star fish alive in anything other than a very large and very mature tank are slim to none anyway.. It’s very important to research each and every item you plan on putting in your tank, it will save you a lot of headaches and money.

I will only get bristles, even serpants still have a hard time in tanks. Bristles are indestructible.

@Rahul1129 that is a Panamic Cushion Star (Pentaceraster cumingi), which is most definitely not collected from where you live. They are voracious predators and would likely wreak havoc on local microfauna, so please please please do not release it. Unfortunately they are not often kept in captivity so their exact diet is not super well known, so my guess would be that it is starving and slowly wasting away.

Edit: Could be another type of Pentaceraster but based off ossicle structure and such it doesn't look like any found in the Indo-Pacific. Idk I work with sharks not sea stars haha. Best of luck
