First let me state that I'm addicted to filter media. I' adding onto my system soon and need to think about filtration. My system which include a 90 gal display, a 30 gal nem tank. and a 22gal sump. I run 1 cubic foot of cerMedia Marine Pure cubes in a high flow area and two 1.5l reactors with stacked siporax run off my return manifold doing 100gph.
I'll be getting rid of the 22gal. sump and adding a 60g frag tank and a 150gal rubbermaid trough sump. For my new setup I'm thinking of daisy chaining 10 media reactors together with either Siporax or to save some money Seachem Matrix. for a total of 15 liters of filter media. I've found that one liter of Siporax in a reactor will support about 50 gallons with heavy bio load, no live rock needed.
My question to anyone that might know or have experience with larger amounts of this stuff. Are these numbers linear? If 1L supports 50Gal with 10L support 500?
Is this idea stupid and should I approach it differently?
