I have 2 180 gallons and i am trying to use a 250 gallon as the sump. the 250g will not fit under the 2 180g, instead it will b to the side. All 3 tanks are in the basement. I have very limited head space. So the height difference of the 2 180 is 16inchs. How can i get the overflow to the sump? Is gravity even enough to flow down and back up over into the 250g? or should i start thinking about a pump from the display to the sump?

Thanks!

I like doing slow flow through my sump, approximately the same GPH as my skimmer. My sump is very simple and only has two areas. One area has the skimmer and heaters. Second has return pump. I like to have high turnover in display but low turnover in sump. Allows a lot of detritus to settle in the sump to be easily siphoned out.

But thats how I go about my system, there are hundreds of ways people run theirs. Find out what you are willing to work with and go for it.
