I set up a RS 170 at the beginning of the year with the intentions of it being a clown and nem tank. I redid the plumbing and wanted a red return hose to compliment the rest of the sump and plumbing. I found a silicone hose on EBay that looked pretty safe. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/352296052229

Fast forward 8 months later. I have not been able to keep any inverts. Any new fish I place in the tank die in a day or two. All my nems have shrunk up and I have a case of hair algae which might not be related.

I sent away for an ICP test and these are the results. There is a LOT of red on the is! I’m wondering if the hose is the cause of it.

Phosphate is a bit high but in the red you can see your Vanadium is major high. Looking up that element is is defined as

"vanadium
[vəˈnādēəm]

NOUN

  1. the chemical element of atomic number 23, a hard gray metal of the transition series, used to make alloy steels."

It is used as a carbide stabilizer in making steels. Seems to me that you may have some metal somewhere in the system that is leaching out into the water column. I would start the search for metal somewhere like your rock work.

Does anything else look way out of the norm, such as the aluminum?

Can I rule out the silicone hose as a culprit of my issues? It appeared to be just silicone and a cloth mesh sandwiched in between.
