help with the lux app!!

Lux womt read par. They are two different things. I doubt an app could read par with a phone.

I read that the app can measure lux, and then somehow that measurement can be used or referenced as par, I thought someone knew how to do it!!

Ive heard it works but is terribly inaccurate. Not tested personally though

I'm getting about 75k lux at the surface (phone app) and the par meter was reading about 700 par under my orphek
The par fell quite substantial once in the water down to 200 par at the bottom of an 18" tank

@saltyfilmfolks will be able to help out
not super happy with the apps over all, the best ones I tested are galactica for iphone and lux lightmeter by crunchy bytebox for android. Some of the 16 apps I tested apps were absolutely horrible. so be warned.
The $15 lux meter matched up almost exactly with my $500 one. @twilliard Id love a real reading:D

So it goes like this
75,000 LUX, divided by A constant(fixture specific) = par
75,000 lux / 54(the sun) = 1388 par

Led become slightly more complicated as the white blue, and other color choices effect this Number as does QUALITY of the fixture.
From working with other users and mapped observations, comparing lux and par maps, A chinese Mars Aqua appears to be around a constant of 62 or more as a good est.

Quality MH run a constant of the 50's(52 to 59)
Quality t5 can run mid 40's to high 50s:eek:

Radion and orphec appear to be high 50s, so far in my observations.
Ive had more Data from radion users so I suspect it could be a lower number

@twilliard Id love a real reading:D because your constant shouldn't be 99;)
so testing error in lux or read the testing led par on the apogee website.

Saltyfilmfolks, Are you sharing your beta? I'd love to try it. Thx

Right?? Not mine to share yet.
Prob with all camera lux and hopeful par apps is the way a camera receives light and the way a meter reads it. Its just not reliable yet. IME

Bring out your dead! Sorry for the revival, I know to some I have committed a terrible indecency. BUT I want to hear about the follow up. @saltyfilmfolks , did that PAR app ever get rolling? I have just ordered the lux meter you suggested and have the galactica app. Since LED has no set constant I think I will try 50, 60, 70, 80 and see what the #'S look like for an estimate.

Has anyone made a reliable yet cheaper PAR meter?

Everybody loves a Z0mbie!
Hey, No it never quite clicked. But look a t the Seneye Par meter. About $200 or less and a friend here has done some extensive testing with it.

And so far from all my research, led at a 1;1 WB or all full color ratio come out at a conversion constant of 60. Some may be 55 but i've nor seen proof of lower, and MANY are higher. I generally run the math at 60 and 55 and 65/ You'll see how little change there is in the numbers.

Awesome! Thank you, I will see if some locals will split it. The app gave me 20k from my phone right under and 85 as a high reflected. So not too helpful. IMG_5269.PNG IMG_5268.PNG

I would too the reflected value, its incorrect.
At 20k lux your in the 300 par range depending on light an WB ratio.

Awesome. That was all blue led. With the T-5 on the lux jumped so high I am now certain I just need a par meter, lol. Thank you for the help!

Hahah. It's addicting. If you pop for the par meter you should pop the $16 for a lux meter. I meter light for a living. It's two tools that really compliment each other. Like a hammer and chisel.

Nice! Lux ordered, waiting on a plan for the par meter. Can I do side jobs if I owned both?

gotta local club? I get hit up for metering fairly often.

Dont tell anyone but lux is pretty much FC footcandles like for cameras. I do lights for TV. I tell kids, just stay in school.
