hi guys

i bought a used reef octopus classic 110sss that had a broker impeller shaft.
i replaced the shaft with a new original one but it still doesn't seem to work right.
this is my first time owning a skimmer so maybe i just dont know what im doing, but im getting large bubbles instead of this white foamy stuff i see everywhere
i do want to mention that im running it in a bucket with fresh water for testing
ive attached a video, is this normal or am i doing something wrong?

thanks

Looks about right, throw n some salt water with some bioload to see how it reacts

edit, it looks like it is in low water level. Try in salt water about 7-8 inches. Should be fine.

really? i thought my bubbles looks pretty thin compared to the white thick foam im seeing on the internet.
water level is 7.5"
i dont have dirty salt water to test it with yet because the tank is still in the making, i guess ill have to wait until its running and test it again

thanks!

Bubbles won’t foam in fresh water like they do in salt water. It is behaving exactly like I would expect. Get that up to normal salt level, and then let it settle for a couple hours, and things will look much more foamy.

Fresh water wont foam up, the foam is caused by the debris in the water. It also takes a week or so for a skimmer to get broken in and start working right.

You should get bettee bubbles in your sump, but you wont wake up tomorrow to sludge in your collection cup.
