Hi I have a new set up my first one and I’m just wondering about the % to set my return pump at. I have a 250litre about 70 gallon display and a vectra s2 return pump I’ve read a lot about tank turn over etc and was just wondering a rough % to set it at. Echotech says the return pump has a 5,300 litre flow and max 11.5 ft head.
my head is roughly 4 ft with a 250 display is there a rough % for the return to have a tank turnovers for a mixed reef spa and lps
Thanks!

Generally you want anywhere from 3x to 6x the tank volume through the sump.
It also depends on what your overflow will handle.
But just for guessing sake, the most I would want to run in your tank is about 350-400 gph.
Maybe a little slower if it runs noisey.
I would start at about 50% and go up or down as needed.

Depends on the return pipe diameter. If it is small, like 16-22mm, than 100% would probably get you to something like 1000-1200lph

The return is a flexible 25mm hose the only bend is a elbow that directs return into display. I’m running at 50% atm and the overflow is handling it. Should I just increase until the overflow can no longer handle the flow coming in

thanks guys

I would not do that. If you push it too much, then any little hickup could create a problem.
If it's running fine, then why change anything?

Ye it’s running fine and silent have just been looking into working out head loss to try work out the tank turnover to get it to x3-x6 but struggling to work it all out.

I guess if 100% is around 1000lph-1200lph and I’m running at 50% then the tank turnover is about 4.5?

+1 don't push too much. 25mm sounds like a good return diameter for the tank size, I think something like a 50-60% setting should be enough and get you to the 1-1.2k lph range.
