So the pump on my vertex in 80 finally gave up the ghost. I got a sedra 3500 to replace the original. Two questions. First I have it turned all the way down and its slowly but surely overflowing the cup. Is this part of breaking in a skimmer? (I have never bought a brand new skimmer but i guess mine would act like a brand new skimmer now?) Second question the old pump was noisy but this new one is just plain loud. i have both the skimmer body and the pump on top of silicone pads to dampen vibration. Is there anything I can do about the noise or do I just have to live with it. Thanks in advance.

the pump may be too powerful?remove pump and impeller clean in warm water, reassemble impeller and volute.you may have to put a air valve to adjust air volume.also is skimmer in proper water level? with new sedra you may have to either raise skimmer or lower water level.pump should settle in and get quiter with break in

hmm so what your saying is I may have to raise the skimmer to compensate for the increased flow. also are you suggesting to clean a brand new pump. thanks for the input

Pump

Yes clean pump in warm water new pumps have a sort of oily coating from factory
Does your sump have a skimmer chamber where water level is stable not fluctuateing up or down that's important
I think after you give a good cleaning in warm water you'll see a difference
Baking soda in warm water cleans good and is safe vinegar too
Hope this helps Rip
