so I bought 2 used 55 gal barrels to use for my water changes. I'm not sure if they were leaking when I got them or if it was the ride home that loosed something but they both have very slow leaks. So I just made the saltwater outside. I carried 5 gal buckets to fill it because my rodi is under my kitchen sink. I have a bad ankle and it was hurting soon. I went to Lowes and got a 45 gal trash can with wheels. I get home and notice the trash can smelled like perfume. It's a hawk brand and the label says nothing about perfume. Anyway if the water is only in it for a maximum of 30 minutes will it cause problems? I just need to use it once until my new bulkheads get here.

If you suspect that contamination might be an issue then the investment you have already made in the tank out weights that. Error on the side of caution.

That is some bad luck right there.....leaky recycled barrels and then the trashcans are perfumed?!
Those barrels are typically tough as nuts so I'd be asking for replacements (or my money back) – my money says they were leaky before you got em.
