Hi every one, I am new to reeftank I need some help to start my tank water mixing, I will put fish and coral, but first I must to cure my tank for several weeks. My question is can I use drinking water for mixing salt to make saltwater for my reef tank? Because our tap water is salty and I had RO system but for start it will take one week to fill the tank. I will use RO system later for changing water. And when I should start to change water 10% if my tank is had new water and just start? Any suggestions please help

For curing your LR you should be ok with tap water but I'm sure other people might have other opinions. Water change you won't have to do till your ammonia and nitrite spikes are over. When your LR is cured it should be able to convert ammonia and nitrite to nitrates which you'll have to remove via water changes

Tap water can have all sorts of problems. It can have unwanted nutrients and poisonous, for inverts, metallic ions like copper. It is better to make up your salt mix with a form of purified water like RO/DI water or distilled water. If your system is of any size, you are probably better off going with your own RO/DI system. You will save $$$$& in the long run.
