Hello all,
I have been in the hobby 1.5 years. Unfortunately, my springer dottyback has been sick going on a few weeks. It was hiding more than normal and I noticed that its fins were fraying, so I tore down my DT to fish it out and put it in my small 10 gallon QT. Initially, I ruled out marine ich and velvet. I thought it was a bacterial infection because of the fins. Now, I’m not sure what to think.
I pulled out all of my fish as a precaution to let my DT run fallow. But then I got concerned because the healthy fish were in such close proximity that I became scared the others would become infected. My tank parameters are: ammonia 0.0; nitrites 0.0; nitrates 0.0; and I typically maintain salinity at 1.025 specific gravity, but I’ve lowered it to 1.020 during this treatment process.
My dottyback has frayed fins and is covered in something white. I’ve attached pictures. I treated it with a two hour Furan-2 bath for 10 days as well as Kanaplex and Metroplex in the QT water column. However, at the end of the Kanaplex/Metroplex treatment period, I realized I had carbon running in my QT HOBs. So, erase that. Now, I’m just not sure what to do. Also, I moved my healthy fish back into my DT and noticed that my lemon peel angelfish has matte white on what is normally a yellow sheen and its fins are minimally frayed. I would appreciate some insight/help! I already lost a royal gramma to whatever the dottyback has.
