So today I purchased a white spotted hermit crab. I'll start off by saying I was well aware of how big they get, and assumed it wasnt 'completely reef safe." Which is fine because it went into my 10 gallon reef which just has some softies nothing crazy, I'm prepared to give him his own small tank in the future possibly aswell, depending on how he acts. But it also just came to my attention that he can apparently eat fish and sleeping fish? What's the likelihood of this? I could understand a sick fish or something really slow, but what do you guys think? It's a low end reef, I just keep next to my bed I keep a blue legged pistol shrimp and yellow watchman goby, a camel shrimp, a skunk cleaner, a balloon molly, a chromy, and hi-fin banded goby. I'm pretty confident the gobies are safe in the rockwork aswell as the pistol shrimp, and I'm also quite confident most everything is too fast to catch when they're awake at least.. not sure about during the night. My biggest concerns are the molly, chromy or the shrimps. What are you guys experience with these guys? Have they ever eaten any of your fish or torn the hell out of some softies? Also are they big climbers or do they prefer large sandbeds? I haven't seen him climb yet but he did already swap into a new shell I gave him
I'm feeding him pellets and algae to supplement him as well, maybe this will keep him docile as long as hes properly fed, keeping a close eye on him. Could never keep land ones, but I sure can keep aquatic ones; and of course I know everyone wants a picture.
