Hi all. I got a frag of pulsing Xenia on Sunday. Drip acclimated. It is looking rough and now has brown spots on it. I was wondering if it has a parasite or is dying? Placed at the bottom of the tank in a low flow area. I know Xenia can be fickle and I need to give it time but I wasn’t sure if I needed to dip it again.

Salinity : 1.025
Temp : 78
Nitrates : 0-5ppm
Nitrites : 0
Ammonia : 0
pH : 8.2

Tank is 30g and 1.5 years old.

Whatever is happening to the Xenia is spreading. There is another brown dot on the left stalk above the previous one.

My Alk and calcium stay stable and are always this high. Mg I don’t check as often but I agree it is low. My bta and zoas don’t have a problem with it though.

Whoa. My 2 cents - Alk is really really high, calcium is too, and your Mag is too low.
I thought if Alk and Cal were both high then the parameters were okay. Is that wrong? I didn’t do anything special and just did a 10% water change on Saturday.

Parameters certainly seem out of wack with the mag being so low and calcium and alk high, are you dosing and is there anything else in the tank that is up taking? What salt are you using and what test kits?

May be flesh rot or tissue injury but they dont really need acclimation opposed to sps and some LPS. Assure they moderate light and medium flow along with some iron and manganese in the water.

Hanna test kit for Alk and mg and salifert for mg. Salt is instant ocean. I’m not dosing anything except I did put in some iodide yesterday.
I don’t think anything is throwing it off from the tank….
25 lbs live rock
2 clowns
Blenny
Bangai
Royal gramma
2 skunk shrimp
Multitude of snails
2 zoa frags
BTA

What if you just cut it above the brown stuff and as low as you can take the plug out put the cuttings in a container with a bunch of rubble for a week or so
Not a bad idea. It has been in the tank for almost two days now and is clearly having a rough go of it.

I would just do a 20-30% water change and make sure the salinity is accurate.

I just checked the salinity today. I just did a water change on Saturday. Is it too soon to do another one? I don’t want to shock anything in my tank.
