Help! Wrasse suddenly dying!

Yea, I really wish someone would get down to the bottom of this curse. Some say it’s viral, and some claim other things. It’s a real mystery.
According to @Jay Hemdal post about it, there is like some biopsy lab thing you can send the fish out to to try and figure out what it is. It’s $600 which tbh I have almost spent more than that on these wrasse already. I’m sure maybe others could chip in too, but I’m really curious about sending it out to a lab to figure out what’s going on. Not just for myself, but for others too

There must be some Marine Biologists on this forum at least somewhat curious about it. I thought this much would have been already done.

dang sorry to hear that. Have you tried other wrasse?
6 lines always last awhile. The last one got super fat (I’m talking morbidly obese) and then disappeared.

No more fairy wrasses for me. I’ve been through 4 of them and they die in the first few weeks.

Do not waste $600 on this. Any serious researcher, with NIH funding, will be able to source sick fish on their dime.

I’d be curious if the same wrasse species are showing a decline in wild populations. If this is happening prior to collection, then there should be a drop in their numbers. Otherwise it points to collection methods.

I was going to say it could just be collection issues. I mean how easy is a wrasse to collect using methods that don’t harm it? Probably not easy. I had to remove every rock from my tank to catch mine.

I know, it’s just so discouraging to see and I don’t get why I’m just unlucky and can’t keep these wrasse. They’re my absolute favorite and they just seem to be fine one day, and gone tomorrow.

I really really wish biota or ORA could aquaculture these guys

It could be, they are elusive - but idk, other people don’t seem to be having this issue and so I’m not sure what it is - I’m 0/4 (technically this guy is still kicking and 1 jumped cause I didn’t have a lid) but the other 2 both were the same. Perfect one day, gone or in bad shape the next. All different vendors, different times of year, etc..

If biota figures it out, get ready to spend thousands per fish!

It’s becoming far more common recently. It’s not just bad luck on your part. So kinda good news bad news….

It’s not just you. A QT vender I buy from reports how many DOA he gets and when he loses what and wrasses are struggling. Sand sleepers at least as those are the ones I follow closely.

Email TSM and see if they can get one for you. You will find one. I have had one in my tank for a few months. Seen several naoko wrasses at stores with unwd.
