Help!! Zoa pox!

Increase flow and dip in Furan2.....Look at coralpedia.com and there is a how to for the Furan2 dip. I have used it and it works almost 100% of the time.

coralpedia says to quarantine and treat, not dip have you just dont the dip before? if so do you know if either would work better

Tagging along. I am in the process of a large colony being wiped out by the pox. I cannot remove the rock they are on. It is too big and also a base rock. Is there any way to treat while in the tank?

+1 on Azurel.. Flow and Furan 2 treatment..

zoaid.com has a complete article on how to get rid of zoa pox, I used this method to cure a few cases of zoa pox.

this would be good to know cause i dont really have a way to quarantine my colony

Just used Furan 2 a few weeks ago for this and it worked great, got rid of them within a few days. Paul, let me know if you need some, I have extra and I couldn't find it locally.

It will largely decrease the concentration of the solution, and therefore the effectiveness, but it's supposed to be reef safe, so I don't see why you couldn't. Turn off all of your powerheads and pumps, and perhaps use a turkey baster to squirt it directly on your colony.

Here is what I did as I don't have the ability either to QT. I took some tank water(butter bowl) and dissolved the Furan2 in it till it was completely dissolved. I then took the frags that had zoa pox and set them in it for about 20m. I also had a small bowl of tank water to rinse excess off then placed them in high flow. I waited 24hr to see how the condition progressed. If they still had it I would dip again the third day after the intial dip, I would then let them set for 2 days.

You will notice that on some polyps there might be a dyed apperance to them and that is fine it's just the dye from the furan2. Ususally they are gone by the second dip but I have had a few that took 3 dips.

The directions say one pill or powder pack per 10g but I just used about 16oz of water for the dip which made it strong and effective.....

+1 Azurel

The only thing I did different was that I used RO water(temp matched to tank temp) instead of tank water.

That is the ideal method Azurel, and the same that I used because I could easily remove my colony from the tank. Paul's problem is that he cannot remove the colony, which makes it a bit more difficult to treat.

Didn't realize that......Or I read it and didnt put 2 and 2 together.....I think Furan2 can be used with corals and inverts in the tank......Not sure if I read that or made it up but I think I have heard that it is reef safe.....

Jared,
I will definitely give it a try. I'll give you a call and see when I can stop by and pick it up. Turning the PH's off and spot treating sounds like a good idea.

Thanks
