I've had a problem with my zoas for the past few months. The zoas grow into a colony and are doing great then suddenly part of them close and then the rest do the same and they are gone. I am not sure what happens to them. I have a few more doing the same and need to get to the bottom of this. Have looked for nudis but don't see any. Can anyone help before I lose more? Here are some pictures taken today.

Mine are doing the same thing. I haven't figured it out yet but here are some things to look for:

Changes in light/flow. Sometimes moving them to a different part of the tank will help.

Make sure your water parameters are good.

Check to see if crabs are irritating them.

Check for nudibranches or other pests on them. The best time to check is at night with a flashlight.

Dip them to get rid of bad critters or infection. I've used coral Rx and lugols solution. Others I've heard recommended are Bayer, Furan 2 and Coral Revive. Some people do freshwater dips.

Sometimes it's really hard to figure out why. Mine were doing great for several months and then started dying off. Wish I could give you a concise answer but there isn't one. Hope this at least helps!

My zoa's have been doing this for 4yrs now. I don't even buy them anymore. Have never figured it out either. Everything else has thrived in my tank, which is as stable as a tank can be.
Some people have great *luck* with them. But ask them what they do that is different from you and they wont be able to tell you.

Thats why I mostly stick to Chalices Acans and Scolys.. No Heartbreak with them.. We started losing Palys and I changed the flow around and Luckily they came back so I found the problem but its just difficult to grow corals like Zoas/Palys that seem so sensitive sometimes. But Finger Crossed no major loses yet. Hope you find the problem!!

In my experience, it's usually a pest irritating them. I dip them in Coral Rx and it usually does the trick. Before adding any new coral to my tank, I've learned to always dip them first.
