I have a 400l saltwater tank with a sub tank, I have had the same rock in my tank for ten +years. I had terrible algae problem, paid a guy $80ph and he told me that to remove all rock and freshwater blast the rock and leave it in the sun for a week before putting back into my tank. My corals all died, my fish are fine. I think I need to purchase all new rock?

The only thing I can say is that "guy" is an idiot! By taking the rock out and hitting it with fresh water and letting it dry....you have dead rock. It needs to cycle (cure). By putting that dead rock back into your tank, it cycled, releasing ammonia....killing all your corals. You are lucky about your fish. At this point I'd stick with what you have and do the necessary water changes to get your phosphate/nitrates under control.

Yeah that's what I thought. So frustrating, just thinking though my rocks are about 15yr old so I think they have been through a lot maybe I should start again
