Do you have a local fish shop near by? They usually sell RODI water by the gallon (typically $0.50/gallon) don't worry, you will get a good tank going, it can be overwhelming at times lol

That's true, you may also be able to get premixed saltwater. Be careful, though. Suddenly using good water can shock your tank if you change too much at a time. With a 75g maybe.....I'd recommend 10g a week, tops, to get it back into condition. That's a guesstimated number, by the way - someone correct me if I'm too far off?

10 gallon a week sounds good to me. I just wouldn't exceed 25% new water a week. What kind of lights are you running? I saw that you had some issues with anemones and coral in the past. Lets get you on the right path so you get the most out of this hobby

Thanks guys I really appreciate the advices I do have a test kit once I get out of work I'm going to find out and also Ima check my local pet store about that water
Harlems, I have a 75 gal salt tank and top off with tap water and prime, tds from tap is 19. I do however use RO water for water changes with Kent saltmix. There is a lot of successful people that use tap. But you must use a water conditioner like prime. I have softies, zoas, acans, lps and a cats paw sps. So my tank likes a little bit of nutrients. Test all your parameters and go from there. Sorry about the loss dang fire shrimps cost 40-50 bucks here in Oregon.

Wow, your city must be super clean, from what I have seen the average TDS is 200-400 in most areas. I have read though that using water dechlorinator or conditioner like that can build up over the months/years and eventually cause a toxic layer where it all builds up that can be detrimental to coral/fish. Not sure if that is true, or it is worse with certain brands. Just something to look into if it is!

Prime is generally safe, but tap water is not, especially if there happens to be copper or rust in it, or something like that...I don't even use tap water for my freshwater anymore since a bad-water water change disaster that killed all my fish.
That's too bad about your experiences. I have had zero issues in over 15 yrs in this hobby using tap for fresh or salt. Even with fairly clean water like I have here in oregon, you still do get a little algae, but in my experience people also have lots of problems with too clean of water. Its a healthy balance you need to find for your tank and inhabitants, along with your husbandry. There is no golden rule in this hobby. Find what works for you and your laziness or lack thereof
