You know these test kits and be a real pain. The RSP kit in particular I've had issues with myself. Mag tests in general are ones that a lot of folks have issues with. Getting a high reading is not surprising actually. Truly I believe he's gotten an accurate reading now. As you said Freddie 1400 is fine IMHO also.

Personally I can't wait for the new Aquaforest test kits. With those at least you have a standardized reference solution so you can check yourself and the test kit. It's going to be very helpful. [emoji4]

I agree that it's no secret that the RSP mag kit is prone to giving high readings.

Perry PM'd me that AF test kits were coming down the line a few months ago.
I wanted to respect him and AF as to say nothing until you guys posted them coming in a public manner but (lol)... a reference solution is awesome. :)

I agree. I'm waiting for the af test kits as well... but idk when they will be out
 
Ok so tested tonight alk is at 7.0, calcium at 425, and mag is 1425, waiting for the intake of elements to kick back in. Note I used salifert for the mag, red sea once again gave me over 1600... my conclusion is red sea sucks for mag... never using red sea again...

I agree with @120reefkeeper that mag test in general could be better but unless he's knows of better kit then I'm staying with the Salifert mag.
+ the Salifert is so easy to preform. :)

I have no complaints with the RSP cal and alk but I've used them along time and it's JMO.

Side Note: I keep multiple kit brands around for the big-3 all time, just in case I feel the need to cross check. I did get a bad RSP cal refill for the first time ever and I know that my cal intake is not 90ppm a day. The other kits helped me out and last week I got a new refill with a new lot# and all is good, again.

Well I tested new water with salifert mag... was over 1500... so decided not to do a water change with that batch of salt on the dt.
 
Just jumping in here, I am having issues with RSP alk test being inconsistent. I brought a ELOS test kit same home this weekend and and tested and the RSP tested at 7.7 and the ELOS tested at 8.5. The ELOS is not as accurate with the reagent, so I have a Hanna checker coming and I am going to do a hobbyist comparison between the test.

From what I understand and was told, they are waiting still for the AF tests to come to the distributor from AF. The test are out overseas though and it should be soon. But when then hit the US I will be ordering the AF tests.
 
For what it's worth I have used the Hannah Alk Checker and RSP Alk kit. I have always found the RSP to read higher than the Hannah, but the Hannah is so much easier to use. I don't care if it's perfectly accurate, just that it is precise (repeatable).

With the Hannah, a fresh bottle of reagent always reads about .2-.4 dKH higher for me then the last test with an old bottle of reagent.

I agree with this statement. I usually use mine until I'm down to maybe a little less than 1/4 bottle left and then I crack open a new one. [emoji6]

I still shoot it back into the bottle but over time my endpoint color changes. I've crosschecked the endpoint color change with other kits and it still reads accurate. It is just the fluid's endpoint color changing because the oxygen breaks down the endpoint color over time. but... T'sJMO. :)

I hope that it is typed in a way, that makes sense :eek:

IMHO,
The oxygen just changes the endpoint color over time. I've used this kit for years and feel very comfortable with it but I've always been told that the Hanna alk checker is very good too.
