I've tried and tried to get an understanding of photography, my brain just doesn't get it. Because of this it makes no sense to purchase equipment I have no idea how to use. My cellphone camera is crap and I'm not to upgrade.

I mainly want pictures I can share with friends and post on forums, I'm not looking for professional looking photos. I mostly want to showcase my fish, although I do have a reef and macro tank I'd like to show off as well.

I would like to stay under $300, but even at that I'm confused and apprehensive about making a choice. Does anyone have a recommendation for an easy to use point and shoot simple camera, video also. Thank you

id suggest an iPhone 7 plus. if you think about it its way under the 300 dollars. since youll be using it as a phone every day and a camera I take 90 percent of my photos with my iPhone 7 plus.

The trick is to completely close the camera app and then open the camera app when your pointing the camera at the fish tank. the phone does a realy good job at adjusting to the blue lights in my opinion I don't even use a filter I might look into a cheap gel fitler soon tho

No Apple products for me, and there are other reasons I maintain the phone I have, thanks for your response anyway.

Look at used (or probably even new) Canon Rebel t5i's or t6i's. If they're not in your price range, just drop the "i". They're a couple generations old, so you can find them cheaper (I found a great deal on a current generation t6i on eBay when the 7 was about to come out). Even on auto, it'll take better pictures than a point and shoot, and I can pretty much guarantee that once you start, you'll want to learn the basics of the settings and turn out some awesome pictures.

If you want to avoid dslr , a higher end point and shoot is pretty stinking cool.

They list a few models here. Look at the Panasonic lumix and cannon powershot line.

I have an Sd card called EZ Share. Like $15
It goes in the camera and sends the pics direct to your phone and stores them on the card too.

If you have a camera store close you can also test drive a number of models by putting a penny on the counter and taking a pic.

I just got an Olympus TG-4 open box from Best Buy for $230 for my grand daughter. Underwater capable and you can find some threads and posts in the photog forum on here. Peeps here get great shots with it.
Just another option to consider.

All the options are great, it's really about finding the right fit for the photographer.

Why do I shoot Nikon?
I keep bumping the exposure wheel on the cannon with my thumb.
