I set up my new reef tank today 100 gallons from 30 gallon, anyway I transferred my old skimmer across to the new tank and it’s foaming like crazy, so much so it’s almost overflowing the sump. I’ve had to turn it off due to this. It’s the Bubble Magnus QQ, I have tried raising it above the water level, turned the side dial to adjust but it just foams everywhere. It was fine in my old tank, but as soon as it went in this one it just went crazy! Any tips? I can’t leave the tank skimmerless!

You can actualy leave it skimerless.

Must be a lot of gunk in the water.
Did you just finish the transfer ?

Sounds like you’ve tweaked it much as you can.

#reefsquad , anyone seen this? What’s the common remedy besides let it settle?

Was it a brand new tank you set up .. was it cleaned first with rodi water .. I’d wait too see if it settles after a few days

Yes my new ea 900 (pictured) upgrade from my previous nano reef. I moved the skimmer across and it’s just been foaming non-stop crazy.

Epoxy and sometimes super glue can make mine go crazy.

I did use a little glue to stick some of the corals down maybe on 2 of them. Surely that wouldn’t cause it to go so nuts? It’s literally like bath foam pouring out within seconds from the cup no matter what I do.

Depending on the adhesive used all it takes is a little bit. I use epoxy for my frags now as I used a drop smaller than the size of a pea of super glue gel and my skimmer went insane for days. It will calm down eventually:)

My guess is that its all the new stuff. Did you add any bacteria during the move? A brand new filter sock for example without a good rinsing can make a skimmer overflow. As mentioned above rinsing w/ RODI can help if done before hand. At this point i dont think there’s much you can do but wait it out. Remove the lid and cover the skimmer cup with a giant zip lock bag and let it overflow until it settles out. Could be a day or two.

Edit: Saw that its HOB after the post. Id probably turn it off amd run some carbon for a couple days to avoid the mess.
