Ive had my reef aquarium established for a few years now. I purchased my SPS corals and water from the same place since it was established. A few weeks ago my top off reserve pump dumped a a lot of fresh water in the aquarium. I resolved the issue quickly but my tank has went down hill from there. It appears it doesnt matter what i do at this point all of my precious corals have either bleached in sections or refuse to extend polyps. I have tested my water personally and everything appears to be ok, but something is really happening. Each day i look at my coral huge sections of the various colonies are now bleached. Please help.... i fear that i will lose all of my corals

A lot of corals like consistency and not large swings in any water or lighting perimeters. The only thing you can do is try to as best you can get your tank back to being as it was and keeping it consistently like that and hope they recover. Apart from that just be patient, nothing happens overnight.

Thanks, that was my fear :(. I find it interesting that it took a few weeks for them to respond in this manner. Another strange find is i purchased a small colony two weeks ago... it is also bleaching. It was added to my tank after the aftermath of the water issue, this leads me to believe that something else is going on.

How long were your corals in the tank before this accident happened? Can you give us a list of parameters that you had before and after the incident?

Can you estimate how much fresh water was dumped into the tank just curious

At some point you may have to cut your losses and start fragging the surviving parts of the corals. Once they start that slow rtn process it often continues... even though your water may now be just fine... :(

Seems like FW amount was significant. Im sure your essential levels ( Ca, Mag. And Alk were aktered making a sudden change to their condition
You will have to re-stabilize tank andcalso add bacteria cultures to restore that bio-culture that was contributing to waste breakdown.
