You need magnesium. With corals, proper test kits will help.

Fwiw, I had that snow effect in my tank after realizing I had a piece of dense base rock dissolve from the inside.

Lol. Still wish I knew what happened.

I didn’t Dose for many years and never had anything like that happen.

You probably thought of this, but is the house sealed up tight for AC? That could cause an increase in CO2 levels which would directly lower pH.
Yea. Super warm here today so I imagine the ac ran quite a bit today. I don’t run and air stone but I may need to start. First time PH has dropped that low on me.

Boosting the gas exchange seems to be helping. PH is slowly coming up. Hairy mushroom is swelling up and the toadstool is extending its polyps.

As far as chemistry I barely passed that class however I’ve never tested the rodi water that I get from lfs so I don’t know if that’s part of the issue.

Seems like (or it’s the wrong direction) it’s a chemistry question , what would elevate alk and repress ph.
Well first off, I believe the test to be off. 7.4 would be a test error. But dissolved calcium carbonate would increase alk as well as ca much like in a calcium reactor.

That’s very well possible on the test. Always felt like I was getting wonky readings. But I’ve got some Seachem tests ordered. Hopefully they will be more reliable. Regardless of the test I know something was not right. Open windows and and more surface disruption and everyone seems to be a lot happier.

I find it hard to believe that co2 would create an issue that bad unless you had zero water circulation or aeration. The ambient co2 level here in the midwest out in the woods is 600 +/-. You don't really see co2 issues in tank till you reach 800+ and the only time I saw that was when I had a co2 cylinder leak from my planted tank some years ago.

And btw I really do appreciate everyone quick response. Not gonna lie I wasn’t far from hitting the panic button. having some experienced reefers to help me focus and not lose it made my day a little better than it could have been.

Thanks guys.

Here’s a question. If not the PH aggravating all the corals, could it have been the toadstool leather? It was added Wednesday and I haven’t secured it to the rock work yet( want to make sure it likes the location). When I came home he toadstool was knocked on its side and was shedding layers of mucus. I know they can wage chemical warfare so I started running carbon.

Agreed.
The ca reactor is co2 driven however.

It’s the tank full of particles that still doesn’t make sense.

I'm not a chemistry guy, so I'm going to make a different suggestion (and ask more questions!) about the particulates -

I know they can wage chemical warfare so I started running carbon.

How are you running the carbon? If you're using a reactor maybe something is kicking up detritus, or refugium sand/mud (if you run one of those). Exit hose could have gotten misdirected, or a break in the line/pump.

Whats going on with your skimmmer? Has the skimmate changed? Microbubbles?

Are you running filter socks or mechanical filtration? If so, whats all that look like?
