So I just came downstairs to find my salrwater tank being pumped full of air as my return pump chamber was half empty...after realizing that I must have moved my ato up a bit during changing my filter socks I quickly turned my ato on. Now there are airbubble on my rocks and all my fish are stressed! My 1 clown fish has tiny air bubbles on him and they are swimming like crazy all over the tank! Help what do I do??

Turn off pump immediately. Move powerheads to keep oxygenation in tank. Since your ATO filled the tank, check salinity ASAP. Correct any errors in salinity as that will be more stressful than the air bubbles.

First thing first, calm down!

Just refill the tank, turn your ATO back on, and above all else, calm down. You fish is fine, probably a little freaked, but it will be fine. The bubbles will dissipate. A while back people were trying micro scrubbing with tiny air bubbles they injected into their return pumps. Bubbles may have freaked the clown out, but it will not hurt anything.

Turned pump off for 20 mins to let the fish calm down....my naso was full of white spots! He was so stressed they seem to be calmer now :( my yellow tang is also getting color back...my poor hippo tang has yet to come out of hiding....flame fish too!

Your salinity should be fine as the lost water will be through evaporation so the salt will have gone no where! I'm correct in assuming you've LOST water, not overfilled from the ATO yes? Like most are saying turn off the return pump but turn it back on once it submerged enough

Yes my salinity was fine. I turned all pumps off for 20 mins and the bubbles came off the fish and they calmed down. Pump is back up and running fine...thank you!
