So.... yesterday was a day from hell our reef tank sprung a huge leak on the bottom and flooded my house..... is it bad for me to say I dont even care about the flood? my sea life is all I care about at the moment! We went and got another take yesterday, had to transfer everthing into the new tank. All my corals a super ticked off!!!! I hate to say I will probably loose some... is there anything i can do beside just sit here and hope for the best????

I don't see what else you can do. At this point, everything is in the new tank. Tell us more about your process...

- How many hours did it take to get everything into the new tank?

- Were you able to salvage any water from the old tank?

- Did your live rock dry out?

- How old was the original tank?

- Did you rinse your sand before placing it into the new tank?

I’d run carbon for sure. It sounds like you transferred the sand and rock too right? If so, it surely got stirred up and probably released some nasty stuff into the water column. Also, watch for an ammonia spike.

There really isn’t much besides waiting once they’re in the new tank .
As long as everything didn’t dry there will still be enough bacteria to seed the new tank .

it might be a waiting game just until everything settles .
Good luck and stay safe !

So the process took almost 9hours... we got everything out and put into 30 gallon trash cans rocks and all. One can was all corals , one can all rock work, and all the cans were filled with all the water left from the tank and all the fish too! The rocks stayed in water. We manage to save about half of the water from the old tank. The new tank was only 6 months old. I currently have a call into the manufacturer about the tank. We did fill the rest of the tank with ro water as we have a ro system tapped into our main water to the house. We have 7 other tanks non of which could house our thousands of dollars in corals due to triggers and aggressive species. I'm just freaking out as my wall hammer is huge I mean huge! And is completed closed up shop. I guess I should have never replaced the original tank before the new one that busted....
O and the sand I literally just started scooping from the old tank into the new.

As has been previously stated, you should probably run carbon as posions that become trapped in the sand bed were released when the sand bed was disturbed.

Other than that, I don't see what else you can do other than pray and hope for the best. Overall, I think you handled it well and ultimately should see a happy ending.
