Is this normal?? So I have another type of clam that attached to a rock that will open and close it's mouth occasionally I guess but I just noticed this today...just got it yesterday. It responds to the fiah swimming around it by closing up...so I assume that's it's mouth?? The hole widens and closes depending upon if it's startled or not...but yesterday it was not open this much to notice. I have marine loop lights and my water parameters are steady however salinity is 1.024 ph 8.2 temp 79.2 nitrates .2 nitrites 0 ammonia 0 phosphate 0 calcium 420 mag was 1400 any suggestions?? I did increase my whites to 100% not sure that matters blues are at 100% too think the white is irrelevant I guess...

If it is still responding and the mantle is attached your clam is fine. It’s the intake “mouth” that you are seeing. Water goes in the clam at that point and will blow out through the small “hole” on the top side of the clam. Seems to be healthy at this point. Make sure you also educate yourself on how a gaping clam looks. It’s still acclimating...

BTW: I have read that it’s best to put the “incurrent” lower than the “excurrent”
