2nd copperband...I made sure it was eating at LFS. Has been in QT for 3 weeks. Was eating well until 5 days ago when it decided to stop eating. I did a FWD last night transferred it into a fresh QT. This morning it's having trouble swimming up . It seem disoriented and sometimes swims upside down. Any help with identifying what the problem please.

How long was the fresh water dip?

CBBs are very prone to developing bacterial infections. Sometimes they present on the exterior as redish areas. But the infections are also within the fish. And are very deadly. If it was my fish, I'd treat immediately with antibiotics in a QT. NFG powder works the best with CBBs. As would the "Trifecta" of Kanaplex + Furan2 + Metro, together they cover are large spectrum of gram positive and negative bacterial infections.
Another option would be a 60 minute bath in Ciprofloxacin.

During the first 2weeks in QT, water was treated with copper at 2ppm, praxis and furan2. Food had kanaplex, metro and furan (in the form GC). My first CBB had the pink color to its face so I did this prophylactically using Elliot at Marine collectors regimen.

I have had fish that have acted wonky for a couple hours after a FW dip. Is the fish improving yet?

No improvement yet. Rapid respiration with nose pointing up. If I move it with an acrylic rod, it starts swimming for short distances, sometimes upside down and just floats with the current.

CBB #2 Didn't make it. This was a really good specimen from the beginning. Will feel bad letting my LFS owner know.
Planning on starting a thread on how to be successful with keeping CBB. I have seen people keep them successfully. Even seen a guy with 2 in a tank.

Sorry for your loss. :(

This happens way too often with these fish. I'd be curious to see the insides to look for evidence of bacterial infection, and or cyanide poison/copper overdosing.

was thinking of dissecting it but not sure how internal organs will look with either of the above. Will cyanide poison show up this late? It was in the LFS since March 29.

Not sure about copper toxicity either. Used Fritz coppersafe with Hanna checker. 6ml into 5 gallons put me just at 2.07ppm.

Thinking of what quarantine strategy to use if I get a new one.

The cyanide or copper that is worrisome is the use during collection, holding, shipping of the fish. The loss rates are horrendous. And the results we see on our end are unexplained sudden deaths, blindness for example.

It's interesting when you ask your LFS they say their suppliers don't use cyanide.
