What can I do with this? It's running on a cannister filter right now. I don't like all the wires and hoses being bulky. I have an extra 10 gallon tank, Idk if I could incorporate that and do a sump somehow? I know nothing about sumps I've only ever used a cannister filter. It's not drilled tank.

You have a few choices .
1) overflow box such as eshopps
2) drain the tank and have it drilled and a overflow with bulkheads installed
3 upgrade to a system that’s already drilled
That being said .
the that will also require many other pieces of equipment upgraded such as in sump skimmer ,

I’d keep the canister filter in case of emergencies or for a quarantine tank .

You can look into Fiji AIOs. They build some acrylic boxes where you can convert an existing tank so you can hide the stuff in those compartments. And no need to continue with a canister filter. Or you could build one or ask someone to build for you. If someone is good with acrylic work, it’s quite easy IMO.

Thats a good idea. But how would everything flow into those compartments

Yes I've been seeing people talk about overflow boxes. I don't think it can be drilled, I think its tempered glass. Ya don't want to upgrade, I really love the size and everything of this tank.

Any room behind the tank to move water hoses & cords?
No I put it that way so I can easily get to filter to clean. I had the chords and cannister under desk at one point but it was too tight of a fit and wasn't easy to work on. I wanted to try and incorporate a sump somehow and put heater in there, idk

you put a return pump on the left (in the picture). Water flows in to the right (in the picture). The first chamber where the water enters can have a sock placed in for filtration or some filter floss. You can get a small skimmer to place in one compartment or a hang on back type. Biomedia can be placed in a chamber if you wish. Lots of options. But mostly everything would be hidden away and you can say goodbye to the canister filter.

So there will be some type of hosing going from this to the main. So 2 hoses? one pulling water out and one pushing water in? And they just hang on the side of tank?

Jilly, Just the hoses & cords, The filter stays. Would look a lot cleaner .
Oh ya, I will move those wires thats temporary. I was just stuck in what I was going to do with lights and everything. The hoses look worse on the back because the hose is all the way stretched down the backside if glass. It's hard to explain but ya it looks worse lol

You got it. There should be a valve on the sump intake as well. I'm sure someone here can share a diagram of the plumbing on their system.

Yes that would help! If anyone has a pic of their overflow box and explanation of it, that would help too

You can do this with zero hoses you’ll just have cords sticking out. I use AIOs for storing and quarantining fish and they’re so simple. Google some pics of AIO reef tanks. There are some stunning ones out there. No cords or visible hoses in the tank. The only hoses I’ve ever had on mine were the ones to a chiller but they were hidden in a back chamber. So if you don’t have a choker set up, you’re all good.

Oh I was thinking it was going on outside of tank, not inside

And you just place that inside tank correct?
Yes. The box fits right in the tank. Mine all come prebuilt and siliconed in. For an existing tank with water in it, I’m not sure how it will stay put. Perhaps clamps. If you plan to buy, ask the store owner or seller

Sounds like you already made the decision .
There are many over flow boxes that use either “ U” tubes or pumps to get the water over the tank and into the sump .
you might find later that they’re a bit of a pain in the butt or .... they work exactly what you’re looking for .
Good luck !

I actually had the option of this one I have or an aio, and the aio was cheaper too. Guess I should've just went with it. Oh well, I will figure something out.
