If you do end up adding the salt directly to the tank make sure the circulation is good

in the mean time can i fill the tank without salt water, just rodi water to fill the tank with? Then can i add salt? Or should i roughly estimate the salt i would normally add into each bucket, and then add it to the tank?
You ABSOLUTELY must have a hydrometer, it is the first most basic tool.... I would DO NOTHING right now and let the existing parameters stay, first thing AM get one at LFS, stability is key , you can't add salt blind.

Canuck is correct, of course. Right now you’re just adding blind. If you don’t have any animals in the tank, there’s really no reason to put the salt in right now

i have good circulation for a 65 gallon tank:

Sorry, I think what we’re trying to say is it’s best to wait until do you have your hydrometer before you get it started, can you add salt and mix it in the tank? Yes, but you’ll still end up having to dilute it or add more salt later anyway, so why not wait until you have your hydrometer?

so just fill the tank with freshwater, then add salt?
NO. GO GET A HYDROMETER FIRST.....Mix it properly, like the rest of the reefers here, are there lifeforms in this tank? Even live rock? If there are its not for long with the methodology I am seeing.....

He has life rock, not live rock. He doesnt have any fish to add yet. He can keep saltwater at a mix of half a cup or three fourths a cup to 1 gallon of water. It will range from 1.020 - 1.026 . but yes, he needs to test. LFS can test for him before his meter shows up.
I have no idea why my message posted like this. My phone hates me.

Sorry, but I am just seeing RED FLAGS everywhere here, with these posts. Why would the OP not have the basics as far as testing at this point??? Hydrometer, basic test kit. Yesterday it was can I keep a Pyramid in a 65. The answer is known, on a quick Google search, looking for any answer that shouldn't be given....hard truth is the best advise here imo. Just saying, let's get it started on the right foot out of the gate, testing, parameters, etc, salinity is point #1. We need to be able to measure this stuff....

Humiliation is the greatest teacher.
Advise has been given. Multiple times. He's excited to have his tank and be social about it.
He doesn't even have to say anything.
The hard truth, is experience. If he chooses to do things without testing, he'll learn quick why he failed.
Many of us have given him information.
It's up to him to decide what he's going to do.

Sadly, we agree, lol....
