Hello everyone try to make this quick my 90 gallon has a ph of 7.8 someone told my that’s low super low. I open a window in my kitchen to let air in it does not raise up or drops I just started to does kalk I mess up rookie mistake put in ato however I’m going to get a doer asap my question is that 7.8 low? and wen I dose how much should I dose to be safe?and not to chase a number but wat would be a safe ph for my tank?

What do you use to measure the pH with and at which time? Normally pH is lower just before light going on and highest just after highest light intensity during day. How your fish and corals doing?

Sincerely Lasse

It would be better for it to be over 8.0, but 7.8 isn’t low enough to cause harm. More important for it to be as steady as possible.

There a number of posts/articles detailing methods of raising pH consistently. Read up and don’t panic.

My fish are good I don’t see nothing strange and my coral some are wide open and some are little close I have a seneye reef monitor on my tank that how I see it was low now I also check with a Hanna checker I got same reading .

It should not cause any harm but it could be to do with aeration in your tank make sure you get enough flow on the surface of your tank.

Here is my pH swing during last week. I take air to the skimmer from the outside - otherwise I had been below 7.9 during nighttime

So I got the Nero 5 two of them you think I should increase the flow a little more

Or just direct it more at the surface of the water as it will allow more carbon dioxide to escape and for oxygen to get in. Which will raise your ph.

Ok thank you I’m starting to dose kalk

I discuss pH issues in detail here:

I will read the article on PH, sounds like a good one. Sometimes I think we try and chase perfect, when very close, but steady will work. First year or so, using Salifert, the SCA was at 7.8 no matter what I tried, no issues, then about a year, solid 8.0, without fail with no major changes, just time.

pH in your aquarium is often driven by the CO2 level in your home air more than anything else, so things like open windows vs not, cooking on gas stoves, or the number of people around are a huge driver of pH.

IMO most gas exchange happens in the skimmer and in my case I got pH down to around 7.8 - 7.9 in the morning especially if we had grand children sleeping over. It was so sensitive to the extra CO2 in the living-room that I could see the exactly time they wake up in the pH curve of my aquarium:D. I redirect my skimmer air to the outside and now I can´t see on my pH when the grandchildren awake :anguished-face:. The pH drop stops around 8. I use Triton Core 7 as "balling" solution and it use sodium carbonate as alkalinity compound. Sodium carbonate drive up the pH and for some time - I dose it only during nighttime. My pH varies between 8.2 and 8.5 during this time but I could not see any good or bad effects of this (according to pH) However - my KH vary a lot during the day - therefore I change tactic - nowadays I let the KH be rather stable and accept 8 as lowest pH. To be honest - I can´t see any differences at all.

As many have say here - do not chase numbers

I thank you for your in put I’m not try to chase a number yet I just want it higher then 7.8 if I can reach the 8 I’m happy.

I have found my 2 Seneye sensors to be quite inaccurate for pH. They are typically 0.1 to 0.2 or more low. You can do a simple cup aeration test to see if they are in the ballpark. Simply take a cup of tank water and aerate it outside with an airstone for an hour. Then measure the pH in the cup. If it's not 8.2 or higher (depends on your Alk), then you know your sensor is off.
