Help! I got my juvenile clown trigger 2 days ago. First day
he was doing super well! Ate and swam normal. I did
notice a gash on his head and it looks like a film over his eye. Now, he's laying on rocks,
unresponsive to anything. He won't eat. The gash looks
like it's getting worse and worse. When he does swim
he's swimming in tight circles. I don't know what's wrong
or how to help him. Please help!

It appears to have become infected. Definitely The wound itself and he also has an eye infection. Do you have him in a quarantine setting where you can treat with broad spectrum antibiotics?

Was the gash on the fish when you received him? If not, do you have any idea how he got it? Was he in a display tank with other fish that may have attacked him?

Looks very serious and your description of his behavior is also concerning. He may be too far gone to revive.

Definitely treat in isolation with an antibiotic such as kanaplex or maracyn if you have it.

Have you contacted the vendor from whom you purchased the fish?

I have a tank I can set up for him what all do you think I should do I really want to save him that picture and everything was from last night today he is doing better but still not 100%

The gash was after and no fish would have done this that's why I'm confused.

Those pictures were last night and this morning is acting better no small circles and is just swimming normal but still not doing good

Sounds like he had no sign of injury when you received him, not even a scratch at that location. So what else was in the tank with him, animate / inanimate when this happened?

It’s pretty easy for a fish to cause a bad gash, or for one to scare it enough to swim into something and get hurt.
I agree that you’re going to want to treat with an antibiotic like kanaplex.

I have 2 Fox face and 2 blue tangs all are about an inch maybe 2 inches were all in the same tank when i got them and have never had a problem with attacking one another

It’s pretty easy for a fish to cause a bad gash, or for one to scare it enough to swim into something and get hurt.
I agree that you’re going to want to treat with an antibiotic like kanaplex.

what can you do if i cant get that for a day or 2 my fish store is closed until tomorrow

Keep the water as clean and up to spec as you can. This will help, Ensure proper aeration. Clown triggers are very hard to kill, but a juvenile like any fish, is much easier to kill. Once you can get it I also suggest kanaplex. Just be advised while treating with antibiotics you need to closely monitor ammonia.

I'm concerned we can't form an assumption about what triggered the problem and what needs to be done to avoid the problem in the future. I've never had a foxface, but I understand they have venomous spines. Yours are small fish but maybe?

Before he was hurt, was he in a tank with lots of live rock? What lights do you have? It is very possible turning the lights on or walking by the tank spooked him, and he dove for cover and smashed his head, Triggers love to wedge into small spaces.
