Why is my hippo doing this? Suggestions just fed, it came out to eat, right back to it.

Did the lights just come on? They do this at night to sleep or when they get scared. Mine does this when I do a water change or in the morning when the lights aren't on or just starting to turn on.

I’ve had blue lights to minimize my diatom bloom. It’s helped but I’ve slowly been turning them on more

These guys especially when new are very skiddish and play dead as a defense. In time it will gradually spend more time out in the open.
For now, when feeding - stand back and observe. To these guys, we look like Big Foot when up front at tank

He was out and about for a good week then this happened

Haven’t had any hippo but my recent whitetail bristle is shy. She is home only w a pseudo Fridmani. Give it time. Hope it was a QT conditioned fish.

No experience from myself, research comes in a variety of sources, I just thought I would share

I agree with this. Mine, when new, hid every time I walked near the tank. Eventually it got used to seeing me and associated me with food. they both now come right to the glass when they see me.
