So! I have a 125 salt tank. I was cleaning it and I shut the filter off. I have 2 filters running. I had to take care of something super fast. I came back and completely drew a blank and forgot to turn unblock the pump ( flip the switch on a fluvel to push water back out) on…rookie move.
today I saw the tank was a little cloudy so I looked and the filter was off. For whatever reason I panicked and turned it on. Right away the smell of eggs hit the air. I tested the ammonia and it’s at .25 ppm I did a 15 gal water change and nothing happened. I have a skimmer and the 2 filters going and nothing is happening. What do I do?

Do bigger water change. Add some nitrifying bacteria to help also. If fish seem to be struggling add airstone too temporarily.

How big of a change we taking for a 125?
I'd do 20% and check numbers again. If needed another 20. Just depends on your filtration capabilities and fish health.

What are you testing with? Some kits have an error rate for ammonia so it may not be as high as indicated.

I’m doin a water change. All my fish are very healthy and my only sick on is in a medical tank. Sadly still using API test kit cause I haven’t gotten the chance to run to the store

In my experience, API tends to show a color as the top end of a range, so like the 0.25 color should be read as “somewhere above zero but below 0.25” and the next color as “somewhere between 0.25 and 0.5” etc etc
