Absolutely false. You can pop the bubbles if you want - it WILL NOT cause it to spread. What CAN happen is that any remaining part of the bubble's "skin" that stays attached to the rock/frag can regrow.don't pop those or they will spread
you can remove them manually by lifting them from the base with tweazers at the stems. just be careful not to pop them
mithrax crabs will occasionally eat them but are hit or miss.
apologies! i shouldn't have made a blanket statement like that without looking into more recent info. Thanks for the schooling. It had been a long while since i had a bubble algae outbreak so i have not seen many of the more recent info. last time i dealt with it in any significant amount was years and years ago. back then it was common practice to avoid popping them because the thought then was they would spread.
