Hello,

I am new here and I have been keeping fish for 15 years now. I know many saltwater diseases and have cured most of them. This Henochius has this weird thing on him and the scales that come off are yellowish in color. I have been searching online and have been asking around and no one seems to know. The fish hasn't been eating for about 5 days now and I don't want to lose this fish. First he had a very bad Ich and Popeye in both eyes. I gave the fish a freshwater dip to cure the Ich, than the fish got this

Welcome to eef2Reef!

That scale also looks damaged in addition to being discolored. The two common causes for that are bacterial infections or Uronema (a protozoan). Sometimes, you see both at the same time. When scales are easily removed like that, it means that the infection is very deeply seated, down in the fish’s muscle. To me, that points to Uronema. Unfortunately, there is really no treatment for this now that chloroquine has been made unavailable. You might try a formalin dip, but with open skin like that, it would be very painful to the fish. Sorry I don’t have better news for you!

Thank you for letting me know I have had this guy since he was .5 inches and have kept him through so much. Should I euthanize him or try doing the formalin dip?

Do fish ever recover from Uronema on their own oft hey are strong enough?

Not in my experience, once they start losing scales, it really can’t be treated. Unlike most fish diseases that are on the skin of the fish, Uronema infects deep down in the muscle....sorry! I hope I’m wrong hear, but I’m pretty sure that is it.
