Hello everyone! It looks like I’ll be starting the plumbing for my overflow and am looking for some help. I plan on buying all the necessary pieces at Home Depot. But I don’t know exactly what to buy. I have 0 experience plumbing so please be patient with me lol As far as I know I’ll need a strainer, a gate valve, and two standpipes. Is there anything else I’m missing?

Btw any tips for building this as silently as possible? Thanks in advance!

My two biggest tips: buy extra, and use some pipe and fittings to practice on.

bonus tip: A joint with fresh PVC cement will seat deeper and easier onto a pipe than when it's dry, so make sure your dry fittings are pushed in tight. You can't lubricate, because this will never fully come off and will mess with the cement joint later. Your best bet is loose fitting the tests and measuring the depth of the fittings to be sure you're going to be right.

Bonus bonus tip, use unions so you can disassemble it, and can rebuild sections instead of entire lines. Buy extra unions now, so later on you know you have the same brand and the halves can mate properly.
