I am using a herbie overflow set up. i am getting a lot of vibration noise from the return line over the top frame of the display. is there a better way than just having it hook over the frame of the tank to keep the return line in place?

Is it hard plumbed return? I had a over the top return a long time ago, and I used a small section of flex tubing to help with vibration right near the top.

it is but im already planning on switching to a quieter pump and adding a section of flexible line. is there a better way to attach it other than hanging it on the frame of the tank which will also reduce vibration

You could put a piece of silicone or rubber between pipe and tank, or tape it so there is a gap where it’s vibrating and put a dab of silicone there, remove tape after a few hours. Also if the hard pipe is not attacked firmly to the structure it will vibrate, add some brackets if needed

It's just 3\4 PVC hard lined all the way. 2x90 at the bottom and top. It hooks over the top frame with the 2x90s at the top
I just wanna see what the pipe can be rattling on. If your 2x90s going over the rim of the tank are snug, adding something to act as a dampener between the vertical pipe and the tank should help. Also helps to add a dampener like a silicone mat under the pump to reduce vibration.
This is free balling from guessing how your piping looks, and assuming its similar to mine. I use a mag 7 and hear no vibration in the room across, just a small hum.
