How far below the emergency pipe should the siphon pipe be with strainer?

AND should they look the same on both sides?

do most reef ready tanks have return holes on BOTH sides??

I have an Animal Bean that I turned into a Herbie. Long story, but I followed the drain pipe has no height and the emergency is 6 inches above the drain pipe. Has been great with no noise (once tuned).

Hi,

usually minimum is 6”. Best on on side, but I have a 180 dual overflow. I had it split for a while. It can be done but shouldn’t. It leaves water stagnant in the emergency overflow side.

So if you only do the herbie on one side what do you do with the other side? Durso and return? Seems that would add to the noise negating any thing you did on the other side?

If they have dual overflows yes. Water coming from 2 directions can create better flow patterns.

So I will have a ball valve on both drain pipes and then tweak that flow into my sump, right?

Hate to sound like a rookie, but its in the name! lol thx
