Hi all,

I am trying to set a up a Herbie style overflow.

I want approx 400 gph to flow into sump, so I chose a 400gph overflow box (this model just the 400pgh version). I want to set up the Herbie style overflow with the two drain pipes, one with gate valve and one emergency. If one pipe is just an emergency does that mean just one pipe is being used? Does that reduce the flow to approx 200 gph (half)? How much should I up size if I want approx 400gph?

Thanks!

If you want 400 GPH you are fine with the model you purchased. Might be nice to step up to the 600, but not necessary. This overflow is designed for the Herbie drain style and will handle 400 GPH through the one main drain. How a Herbie is setup means technically you have a main drain and a secondary drain. Your main drain will handle 99% of the flow and when tuned with a gate valve, will send the other 1% down the secondary drain. This is what produces your silent full siphon on the main drain. If your main gets clogged your secondary drain can absolutely handle the other 99% of the flow If needed.

Perfect! Ya I didnt know if that rating was for one or two drains. Makes sense the way you explained it, much appreciated!
