Went and got my first sw tank yesterday (every muscle in my body is sore). It came complete with everything including fish. I had to set it up in a hurray to get the fish back in the water. The rock work will begin today, hopefully. In the pictures that follow some are of it before we took it down at the sellers house and some are at mine. Can someone i.d. that clown? I think it's a maroon...

Welcome! Yes that looks like a maroon clown to me. Having to move that much stuff quickly can wear a person out :).

I asked the seller about the tellow and purple tang in the same tank...they grew up together so they actually are buddies, the clown is the man of the tank. I think it's about 75 pounds of rock with several nice big flat pieces.

When doing rock what are the general guidelines? There were set-up with several caves but really block off flow from getting behind the rocks.

I would keep an eye on your ammonia and nitrite levels. Moving a tank and stirring up a older sand bed can be disastrous, have new fresh salt water on hand to do water change. The tangs although fine now can get very aggressive towards new fish added in such a small tank, since there is not a lot of swimming space.

Rock work really is no set guideline just what ever you like to look at daily, don't expect to get it right the first time. Best way to do it is to have several tubs you can sort the rock out in. Large in one, medium and small in another. Then just make sure and stack it so that it is balanced and secure, last thing you want is a rock fall breaking the glass. Also if you plan to take the maroon out this would be a good time to do it. Find someone that ways to purchase it or a lfs can take to for store credit. Most people try and do caves with the rocks because it gives the fish places to hide and swim threw, most don't like just a big open swim area(tangs do) and want rocks to dart in and threw. Like I said it will take a few tries to get it right. I hate the way our rock work is at the moment but I'm not redoing it now because we are waiting on our contract to be accepted on a house purse and it will be moving any way.

Good luck and ask away on your questions lots of great people here full of information

I did just check the water the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates are still good. My family nixed the idea of getting rid of the clown...he does have an awesome personality.

Congrats on the new setup. I have been working on my rock work for a year now every few months they get moved a little more with each revision getting better. It started out as a pile of rock to now tons of caves and cliffs over hangs arches etc. best of luck

ok good to hear on the params. those clowns do have a personality and can get very mean, they have been known to bite when people stick hands in and the bigger they get the bigger the bite lol blood has been drawn by them!

I have 2 clowns a female black Ocellaris and a male true percula they are always together I hope they mate if possible. But anyways I have found that they only bite one of my hands and it's the one with a ring on it doesnt hurt but will scare the crap out of you and make you jump. That's when i get hurt by hitting my lights lol.

congrats on the tank i have. redone my 250pounds of rock 3 times and finally like my scape it is just trial and error

Very cool and glad to see you addicted! HA!

The tank has zero cuc, that will be next purchase, critters. I'm happy with the fish for right now but will want a better anemone for the clown as that flower pot isn't much to look at right now.

I can't wait to see what you do with the tank. It has TONS of potential!!!! Good luck!!!

Congrats on the tank!!! I have a pair of marroons and love them even though the female hates me. lol Put that rock however you like it!!! From all of my research and reading this forum 15+ hrs a day(lol, sad but true) all fish are different. Just keep an eye on everyone to make sure they all play nice!!
