Here it is my now 5 year old tank

Well turned 5 this month.
This tank suffered major failures last December first lost a seal on the bottom glass leaking most all the water on the floor while I was at work. 2 weeks later a heater failure tank hit 92 degrees.
Then at the end of the month I had an external skimmer leak going unnoticed for a month. Salinity down to 1.010

So here it is my mixed mess

Its a busy tank for sure. Its a challenge to keep such a mixed setup

Mixed setups are harder to keep then a species tank of say just SPS, LPS or soft. It is all about balance. You have to keep it clean but not to clean. You need good flow and light but not to much. It is a fine line to keep all happy.

I think it is worth it as I find the tanks has more movement and around every corner is a variety of different shapes and sizes.

Is that Halimeda sp algae I see peaking out on your rocks? Love that stuff.

It is a milestone, I think I have taken care of the possible failures.
Last December was disastrous to my tank

Ohh ya! I actually bought live florida rock and placed it in there last month hoping for pests..

I really like that because it has the calcification look for its age, the algae is in total balance meaning I cant see any and if there is some, that's about right for a productive reef not in negative nitrogen loss state, and its weathered some storms without being taken down, all part of the battle. healthy animals, that xenia looks good in there I know, its great tank

You can get some sweet stuff on fresh live rock. Years ago I once got a small octopus still alive in the bottom of the box. Not to mention all the cool calcareous algae you can get off of Florida rock. Plus shrimp, crabs, sponges, corals and sea squirts. You just need to be careful at IDing things and take out what is bad. I also look forward to that stuff.

That is funny! But it takes a lot of dedication to keep a tank healthy for that long. Mine is going on 12 now with quite a few hiccups. Long live Reefing!
