I have a 10 gallon nano setup and am wanting to remove a nice piece of BRS rock that is in there and replace it with more. The new piece is something I pieced together with epoxy and is more rock than the one in there now. I have one other huge piece in there that will remain. I am kind of worried if I just remove and replace that I will lose some biological filtration, and being only a couple of months old, and being so small, that it could cause issues.

I have placed the new rock into my established 90 gallon, and am wanting it to become "live". My question is, how long before bacteria really gets on it???

wow, I am getting totally different answers in various places. Dont you think if the tank is established already that it wouldnt take that long???

There are a lot of variables. And at best you will get only a guess. No you wont got through a full cycle. Whether you see a cycle at all will depend on the bio load of your system and the amount of bacteria you remove from your current system, added to the amount of bacteria seeded in the new rock placed in the other system. My best guess you will probably see little if any indication of a cycle. If the new rock is placed in another tank for a few weeks I would guess you will see none
