Here's something cool... Or scary?

I don't usually post "what is this" messages but I just saw something cool inside a large barnacle in my tank and wanted to share. So.... Is this a tunicate of some sort? I'm guessing it retracts, though I didn't check.

That may be a pineapple sponge. They're relatively common in quiet spots in the tank, filtering a little bit of water and generally doing no harm.

They don't ever seem to get very big, unlike some of the sponges out there.
