hermit crab Cut over?

That’s just a molt.
They look convincingly like dead crabs.
Agreed! Leave the molt in the tank for scavengers to consume.
Cool! I haven't had hermits in so long I forgot about molts :)
Mr. Krabs

Hermit crab molts are creepy. I just had my first ever a couple weeks ago. I thought for sure he died. I didn't even see him sitting right beside it in his new shell. Just make sure you have plenty of extra shells lying around of varying sizes that are the same size and bigger than his current shell.

When you see a truly dead or live hermit without his house shell, you won't forget what it looks like...thier exposed back end looks like a cocktail shrimp.

Definitely, looks like moult, 2 of mine moulted on the same day this week and was exactly like mentioned above if its white on the body section its not the full crab, you will notice the difference

A hermit out of it's shell is a sight you can't unsee. LOL. It's the freakiest thing ever!

Mine have just taken up home in some new shells

Especially when they run scared looking for another shell.
Exactly! I haven't seen this happen in my tank but I happened to see a program not long ago and it showed them scrambling for shells, fighting for shells and so on. I had no idea they had such a freaky body shape. I certainly look at them in my tank differently now and I hope to never see one out of its shell. The molt I found was bad enough. LOL
