Hermit crab dead or molting?

Hey guys, I have one hermit crab in my tank and suddenly he stopped eating and started to hide under a rock. Today I realized that there is an exoskeleton or him outside of the shell, I'm not sure. It follows the image below

Is the hermit crab dead or molting?

Pick up the shell and take a look.
The molts do look like a dead crab, so the only way to know for sure it to take a look.

I thought the same when I added my first ones to my tank, within a few days one stopped moving and stayed in the same place for days. I thought I killed it with bad acclimation but still saw its antenna moving. Then one day I saw its claws on the opposite side of the tank in my royal grammas cave I thought my RG chewed off its claws lol. Counted up the crabs and all of them are there and noticed one of them was a much lighter shade then the others so I guess it molted.

After that the crab that was not moving was the most active.
