Hermit crab legs

My hermit crab has been in the same spot for 2 days so I wanted to help get him out of a rock crevice. When I did, there were tiny little claws and legs stuck to the shell. I’m not sure if I’m calling them their right name. So I took him out and put in in a little cup but the weird thing is, he has his little legs and claw? Does anyone know what happened here? I’m

It molted and grew new ones which will attain full size in a couple of weeks
