So I am new to reefing. I finally got my levels under control after 5.5 weeks of start up. So I figured I would try a couple zoa frags to see how they and I did. Heard they were a good starter coral. I go to dinner then come back and a hermit is on top of one. I about choked. I think it was eating the algae on the frag base. it was green hair algae. Are hermits a danger? everything I read says not to worry. What do you guys think?

Yeah just FYI I'm new to feeding as well, 6 months in and can barely keep a zoa alive. My algae, hermits, and fish are doing great though lol

I have 4 different types of zoa's in my tank as well as 4 hermit crabs. They don't bother any of them at all. Other corals that are "beginner" corals that I have include green star polyps and an orange rhodactis mushroom. The hermits don't bother any of them, just the snails.

But more importantly, I don't see any bass guitars in your profile pic. That is something that needs to be fixed right away.

Hermits are good for cleaning the zoas and will occasionally get rid of dead tissue around polyps i believe. I think they only eat the ones that are sorta dying, u know the ones that are close for awhile and shrinking from what i read.

good to know. I am new to corals, and I thought I had messed up by putting things that dont get along together. Thank you. Thank you to everyone that replied!

Nah u need a good clean up crew of hermits and snails--just gotta watch out for shell on shell violence lol.
