He's college bound!!! And leaving his fish....

Hi all!!

So my baby boy is leaving for college in August... Hockey scholarship!!!!

Hubby and son are driving so there is no way he can transport his 2 naked clowns on the drive. I will be flying up to Pa and meeting them (apparently I'm horrible to road trip with

)

Is it possible to fly with fish? (they're not exactly emotionally supportive)
Would they possibly be ok with an 18hr drive? (4 days are planned)

If flying is not an option, HOW can I house these fish in my tank while he's gone??? I have a mated clown pair of 10 years and they have zero tolerance for newbies. Would they be fine in an acrylic container in my main tank long term? Does such a thing even exist in a large size?

This is a new one for me. He was drafted to play in Canada at age 16 (he's 19 now) but fish were never involved. (of course he's not taking his dog. Daughter also didn't take her dog when she left for college. We now have 5 dogs.)

Go to depending on how the clowns are. Petco sells large acrlic hermit crab like containers.. they have vents to allow water flow. I kept a anemone in mine for a month in my qt tabk . And yes it has a top i just opened it to take this pic at the time

How hard would it be to just keep his tank up and running? What college did he get a scholarship at just wondering

Same here. I live in NEPA. While I wouldn't have them shipped to me or anything, if the school is close enough I could cure up some rock in a fresh tank so that you have fresh, warm, salty water to plunk them in when you get up here.

They're pretty young clowns and between my clowns and my oddly aggressive Big eye Squirrel fish they won't stand a chance!

Hes taking his tank (coach and the biology teacher promised to watch the new fish up there while hes on break)

You should ship the fish overnight to him once he gets there and before you leave if that's possible.

We dont know anyone up there (have family in Pittsburg but he doesnt know them)

Any good fish stores near him?

I can actually start drying out some really beautiful rocks that I have to trade and he can bring them up! (Texas summer will kill/ bleach everything quickly!)

There isn't much for LFS in most of PA. There are a couple Facebook groups where he can find some, but I think the closest is Coral Reef Connection in Sinking Springs, maybe 15 minutes away. It's a pretty decent shop and Will is a good guy.

Hello,

Personally I would overnight ship the fish once he has a new tank set up. That would probably be the best course of action and less stress. You never know his current gf may have applied there also or visit. (Don’t jinx yourself lol).

I'm quite sure she did apply to go there, her parents wont pay though and shes banned from our house and her name isnt allowed to be spoken in our house.

Hes already been up there and found a super cute gal (that we agree on!)

The clowns are staying here though..... (the naked clowns. McNastty clown is also staying here but I only care about the fish)
