Hey everyone starting a reef pi build

looks ok to me. double check the uln2803 direction, its not very clear from the image. Given you are soldering the IC directly on the permaproto board, fixing any mistake will be lot of work

Nothing appears to be touching there I made a mistake and got impatient my nice soldering stuff is at work so I went to Walmart by the house and got a cheap one which has made life hard

A good alternative to the pico board is one of the HATs made by @Michael Lane. I've got his V2 board and it makes everything very easy and neat. Not quite as plug n play as the pico board, but dang close. You still have to wire your own outlets (temp, pH, dosers) but when it comes to hooking them up to the Pi, it's as simple as plugging them in.

If you go HAT route, I'd strongly advise buying some pre made JST-XH wires, couple bucks from ebay, eliminates a lot of busy-work.
 
It looks like pin 9 on the ic (ULN2803?) is not connected to anything since it is in the routed slot. If it is ULN2803, that's the ground pin, and it will be necessary to connect it. You don't necessarily need to remove the ic and resolder, it's possible to just solder a bit of wire directly to that lead and then connect that wire wherever you have a ground.

Yeah I realized I was looking a a picture I was using to solder was a thread someone was having trouble with then realized that mine was wrong after I looked at a diagram

So I went with the ml hat and everything seems to be working on the hat when I turn things on and off on the reef pi the lights on the hat go on and off. But I can’t get my outlet to work
 
the circuit reset is sorta loose like if i press the button it feels like its not doing anything

I don't see a screen shot of your drivers page. That is where to start. Add the rpi driver. (though maybe you have it because you have outlets setup). IDK

The pin numbers you are using don't match mine. I am using 8,9,10,11,22,23,24, and 25. Is this a version thing with the ML hats?

Why are the outlets reversed?

After outlets are created go to equipment tab and create equipment attached to the outlets. From here you can manually turn things on and off.

I had some quality issues with my ADJ power strip. I was able to use a multimeter to track the circuit and find a bad solder in the adj.

whoa! Documentation! Mike is stepping up his game. Okay I see the rpi driver. You are matching the pins and "reverse" Mike tells you to do. Maybe check the DB9 connector to make sure ground is correct then I would open the ADJ and check it with a multimeter. It is even possible to check continuity from the hat to the adj relays to make sure the db9 serial ports are wired correct.

Hey and try shutting off the reverse once. Who knows.... it won't hurt anything. I have the same ULN2803 and didn't reverse mine.
