Hey Guys! Name is Michael i am a restaurant owner with a decent amount of free time most days! My wife has pretty serious allergies to most things alive so we can't have normal pets! So her doctor suggested us look into fish aquariums. About a month or so i started the research and i am ridiculously addicted! I have always had pets but had to give my dog away when my wife moved in. I also love to learn and love science most of all. Little did i know this hobby would provide me with a healthy outlet (since video games are frowned upon once you turn thirty) for all my free time! My wallet isn't so thankful but I love this hobby. I have watched probably 100+ hours of videos on you tube, but they all say the real knowledge and conversations are here. SO i am here to learn! I am working on putting my tank together i have a 120 dt with a 40 sump. i haven't picked out to much of my equipment yet but should be getting all my plumbing tomorrow! i will put together my rookie build post when i get it finished hopefully by September! Right now i am working on my livestock plan so any tips would be appreciated!

Welcome.

My one key piece of advice for anyone coming into this hobby is this: Nothing good happens fast. It's a hobby... take your time, learn all you can, and enjoy the process.

Sounds like you're on the right path so far. Enjoy :)

Welcome... let's start with the pics now... we love seeing stuff even before it gets wet!

Sounds like you're off to a good start... research and go slow.

Best bits of advice I had many years ago:

Nothing good happens quickly in this hobby.

Remember we keep water, not fish or corals.

Good luck and keep us posted :)

So i bought a friends parents old stuff. They were upgrading from the 120 to much bigger. so i bought the tank 5 power heads, 2 light bars, 2 t5 lights, 2 heaters, a stand, 150 pounds of assorted rock mostly pukani and tonga, and the canister filter in the photo. all for the price of that live rock lol. Today i put the last coat of paint on the back. So tomorrow ill be cleaning the glass and installing that shadow overflow. The only other things i have bought is 100PX - 790 GPH - Pan World which will be my return. and then last week i bought a 40g breeder to turn into my sump. I have never been a very handy person i was more the scholar and my brother did all the handy work growing up so i am using this tank as a way to learn to be more handy. The work shop in the photos had been used as storage in my basement the last few year so i am reclaiming it and re-purposing it as my fish room since its below my office where the DT will be. Tomorrow i should be getting another large piece of pukani to use on the right side of my display which you can kinda see there. i am still playing around with my aquascaping. I also get all the pvc and fittings tomorrow so my goal this weekend is to get the tank and sump roughly plumbed. Thanks for all the responses! and again any tips or advice is always welcome!
